Imersian makes one of the tools on this list. We rank it first, and we explain why. Every other entry is assessed on the same criteria, using facts from each vendor's own pages and Shopify App Store listing, checked on 4 November 2026. Where a vendor doesn't publish something, we say so.

The short answer

For a Shopify rug store with 100 or more rugs that needs shoppers to see the right size in their own room, we recommend Imersian. See how it works for rug retailers. It builds a 3D model of every rug from your existing product photos and places it at true scale in the shopper's room photo. Plans start at US$348 a month.

If you want to spend nothing extra, Shopify's own 3D and AR media is built in and free to use if you already have 3D model files. Wizart suits stores selling many surface materials with a large SKU allowance. Roomvo has no Shopify app: it is added to your site with an embed through Roomvo's own onboarding, and its rug visualizer is free for rug retailers using its partner brands' collections.

How we evaluated

Rug shoppers mostly ask one question: will this size and colour work in my room? So we weighted true-to-scale accuracy and product fidelity most. A 3D model placed using the room's geometry and an AI-generated image of the room are different things, and we say which each tool uses. Then we looked at:

  • Own-room upload: can shoppers use a photo of their own room?
  • AR: can shoppers view the rug through their phone camera?
  • Shopify install: is there a Shopify App Store app, and how does it go on product pages?
  • Catalogue fit: does it suit a store with 100+ or 500+ rugs?
  • Setup effort and time to live: what work falls on you, and how long until shoppers see it?
  • Pricing model: the public "from" price, where the vendor publishes one.
  • Best for: the store each tool suits best.

We did not install every competitor app on a test store, and we did not rate competitors' image quality. Facts come from each vendor's published pages and App Store listings. App Store prices are monthly list prices in USD, before annual discounts. If anything here is out of date, email us and we'll correct it.

Fit for a Shopify rug store.

1. Imersian: best for true-to-scale rugs on Shopify

Imersian is a room visualizer and AI shopping assistant for home retailers. Shoppers upload a photo of their room and place your rugs and furniture in it at true scale. Imersian builds a 3D model of every product you show, so the rug keeps its real size, shape, border and fringe as the shopper moves, rotates and swaps it.

  • Accuracy and fidelity: a 3D model of every product, placed using geometry reconstructed from the shopper's room photo. Rugs sit under existing furniture, with matching perspective and shadows.
  • Own-room upload: yes, by upload or by taking a photo on a phone. Magic Eraser removes furniture the shopper wants out of the picture.
  • AR: yes. Shoppers scan a QR code to open their design in AR on their phone.
  • Shopify install: a native Shopify app. You tag the products you want enabled and they sync every 24 hours. The button is part of your theme.
  • Catalogue fit: the Visualizer plan includes 500 active products to start, scaling with your catalogue, and up to 1,000 room uploads a month. Add-ons for larger catalogues are priced to the catalogue.
  • Setup effort and time to live: you supply the product photos you already have. Imersian builds the 3D models, and rug models are free, so there is no 3D work on your side. Imersian onboards retailers within 2 weeks.
  • Pricing: the Visualizer starts at US$348 a month, on a 12-month term billed monthly, and the AI Shopping Assistant at US$35 a month, month to month. You can start with a free-credit trial and a demo of up to 10 of your own products. See pricing.
  • Best for: established Shopify rug and furniture retailers with 100 or more products who want accurate sizing and a set-up-for-you rollout.

Strengths: shoppers spend real time with it. Capel Rugs shoppers spend an average of 6.4 minutes in the visualizer, and All Modern Rugs sees 5-minute average sessions with 13 interactions per visit. 38% of Kelim's visualizer sessions include an upload of the shopper's own room, and those sessions average 8.3 minutes and 16.7 interactions. Shoppers can also press Render to get a photorealistic HD Render of their room. Imersian is rated 5.0 on the Shopify App Store.

Trade-offs: it's a paid plan rather than free, and it isn't instant: setup takes up to 2 weeks rather than minutes. Very small stores testing demand may prefer to start with a free option.

2. Wizart Room Visualizer: best for stores selling many materials

Wizart lets shoppers preview flooring, tiles, wallpaper, paint, rugs, carpets and other materials in a photo of their own room or in one of its ready-made interiors.

  • Accuracy and fidelity: Wizart's listing says previews are true to scale, perspective and pattern repeat, with dynamic scaling. It doesn't say whether it uses 3D models or generated images.
  • Own-room upload: yes, or 250+ ready-made interiors.
  • AR: listed as a feature tag on the App Store, but not described.
  • Shopify install: Shopify App Store app. The catalogue syncs from your Wizart account.
  • Catalogue fit: strong for large catalogues: 1,500 SKUs on Basic, 5,000 on Standard and 10,000 on Advanced.
  • Setup effort and time to live: not published.
  • Pricing: from US$299 a month (Basic, 5,000 renders), then US$499 and US$699. 7-day free trial on every plan.
  • Best for: retailers selling rugs alongside flooring, wallpaper or tiles who want one visualizer for all of them.

Strengths: a large SKU allowance on every plan, a compare mode that shows several materials side by side, a built-in cart and full white-label branding.

Trade-offs: the entry price is close to Imersian's, the listing has no reviews yet, and setup time isn't published. It's built around surfaces and materials rather than furniture.

3. Roomvo: best for partner-brand rug and flooring retailers who can add an embed

Roomvo is a long-established visualizer for flooring and rugs. Its rug visualizer lets shoppers upload a photo of their space, or choose a sample room, and preview rugs on the retailer's website. It is not a Shopify app: it is added with an embed through Roomvo's own onboarding.

  • Accuracy and fidelity: not published for the rug visualizer. Roomvo describes its results as realistic and accurate.
  • Own-room upload: yes, from a phone, tablet or computer, or a sample room.
  • AR: not published for the rug visualizer.
  • Shopify install: no Shopify app (embed via Roomvo). You paste a line of Roomvo's embed code into your site, with help from Roomvo's onboarding, outside the Shopify App Store, so it isn't installed or managed like a Shopify app.
  • Catalogue fit: built on catalogues from 200+ partner brands. Terms for a retailer's own-brand rugs aren't published.
  • Setup effort and time to live: set up with Roomvo's onboarding rather than from the Shopify admin. Roomvo says onboarding, training and support are free.
  • Pricing: free for rug retailers, according to Roomvo's rug-retailer page, using collections from its partner brands. Pricing for brands is by demo.
  • Best for: retailers who mainly sell partner-brand rugs or flooring and can add an embed to their site.

Strengths: free to rug retailers using partner-brand collections, free onboarding, a large brand catalogue already loaded, and lead tools for the sales floor.

Trade-offs: it has no Shopify app, so it isn't installed or managed from your Shopify admin, and it suits partner-brand catalogues best. If you design and sell your own rugs, check the terms with Roomvo. We compare the two in detail in Imersian vs Roomvo.

4. Shopify 3D and AR media: best if you already have 3D files

Shopify lets you add 3D models to product pages as media. On a supported theme, shoppers can spin the model and view it in AR through their phone camera.

  • Accuracy and fidelity: as good as your 3D model. AR shows the model at real size through the camera.
  • Own-room upload: no. Shoppers use the live camera instead of a room photo.
  • AR: yes. Shopify makes GLB and USDZ versions available so it works on iOS and Android.
  • Shopify install: built in. It needs a theme that supports 3D media, which includes all Shopify-built Online Store 2.0 themes and Horizon.
  • Catalogue fit: one GLB or USDZ file per product, up to 500 MB each.
  • Setup effort and time to live: depends on producing the 3D files. Shopify points you to a Shopify Partner or a 3D scanner.
  • Pricing: Shopify states no separate charge for 3D media. The cost is creating the models.
  • Best for: stores that already have 3D files, or a few hero products.

Strengths: no extra app, native to your theme, and works on iOS and Android.

Trade-offs: you need a 3D file for every product, and shoppers can't place the rug in a photo of their room or see it with their furniture.
